Dev Blog #1: Forging the Fronts – Introducing Bowler Hat Interactive
Welcome to the official digital hub of Bowler Hat Interactive! If you’ve found your way to our corner of the internet, chances are you share our deep passion for complex, systems-driven historical strategy and tactical simulation.
For the past several months, our core team has been quietly working in the background to lay the organizational and technological foundations for our studio. Today, we are incredibly excited to lift the curtain on our foundational philosophy and share the high-concept vision behind our flagship title currently in development.
The Vision: Moving Beyond the Twitch Shooter
As developers and gamers, we’ve watched the multiplayer landscape lean heavily into individual twitch reflexes and fast-paced "hero" mechanics. While those games have their place, we believe there is a massive, underserved community craving something deeper: a battlefield where victory is forged through collective discipline, rigorous communication, and macroscopic strategy.
Our upcoming project, Forged Fronts (working title), is being built in Unreal Engine 5 to answer that exact call. Set during the complex and global theater of the Seven Years' War, the game challenges players to operate shoulder-to-shoulder within structured, persistent regiments.
The Core Pillars of Forged Fronts
We aren't building a traditional shooter; we are engineering a coordinated tactical war machine. Our production pipeline is strictly guided by three non-negotiable design pillars:
Collective Discipline over Fast Action: Combat is slow, deliberate, and highly lethal, meaning proper spacing, line formations, and synchronized volley execution will always shatter isolated individual skill.
Physical Logistics Pipelines: Wars aren't just won by firing lines; they are sustained by supply lines. In our architecture, ammunition and critical resources move physically across battle zones, creating deep tactical loops where cutting an enemy's supply chain can collapse an entire front.
Persistent, Multi-Week/Month Campaigns: Rather than isolated, meaningless matches, battles are bound to a macro system where territory control dynamically shapes sweeping theater campaigns unfolding over real-world weeks.
What's Next? Scope Discipline and Production Focus
As an independent studio, we believe in radical transparency and absolute scope discipline. We aren't attempting to build an unfeasible, sprawling open-world at launch. Instead, our immediate engineering focus is entirely locked on our Vertical Slice—a tightly scoped small portion of the game we can use to pitch to publishers, So we can get the funding to make the game we want!
This blog will serve as our primary dispatch center. Moving forward, we will utilize this space to share technical deep-dives from our engineering pipeline, historical research deep-dives from our design team, and updates on our production milestones.
Thank you for joining us on Day 1. Adjust your formations, secure your supply lines, and prepare for the front.
